IESR call for case studies

25 February 2010

Aim

The IESR team invite proposals for case studies to illustrate use of IESR in different contexts. Up to five case studies will be commissioned in April and May 2010 to demonstrate practical application and use of IESR. Case studies should be focussed and practical, documenting use of IESR through its web based search applications or its machine-to-machine interfaces. A description of the process should include details about use, technical implementation (if relevant), difficulties encountered, benefits of using IESR and suggested enhancements. The case studies will provide ideas and guidance for future enhancements to the service and encourage uptake of IESR within diverse communities.

Possible case studies

Possible case studies may include—but are not limited to—the following:

  • Use of IESR to discover and monitor resource collections in a specific subject area
  • Contributing to IESR to promote awareness and use of collections
  • Incorporating IESR content within a search application
  • Harvesting, aggregating and re-using IESR content to form new collections relating to specific interests, subjects or formats
  • Use of IESR content to populate a local portal, catalogue or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

Structure

A case study template will provide a guideline to the type of information required. It is expected that there will be some variation in structure and content due to the differing nature of the studies. As a guideline, case studies are expected to be approximately 2,000 words in length.

Payment

The payment for each case study will be £1000. Payment will be made on approval of completed case studies.

Timescales

  • Expressions of interest should be submitted in the form of an outline proposal (100–200 words) by 7 May 2010
  • Successful applicants will be informed of the outcome by 14 May 2010
